About Isabella Martire
I loved art since my childhood. I started drawing at the age of three. My life journey stirred me toward medicine, and I returned to art later in life.
My formal training was through a three-year program at The Compass Atelier.
I am currently a portrait painter and many of my subjects are my patients, some of whom have been with me for over twenty years.
Many of my patients have been through very difficult times with strength and dignity. Through their portraits I want to honor traits of their personality. I take the photos in my office or in an environment my patients prefer. We chose their favorite outfit since the portrait is permanent. I typically snap 60-100 photos in rapid sequence to find an expression that is not too posed and reflects a trait of their personality.
During the painting process I try to capture their likeness in a photorealistic manner. I take my time, I am never rushed, I want my portraits to reflect the love and respect for the people with whom I share a very important journey.
